Ballet for Burlesque with Ariel Helvetica

Instructor: Ariel Helvetica

Join Ariel Helvetica in her "Ballet for Burlesque" 4-week progressive where you will use the power of ballet to strengthen and tone your bodacious body. Ariel will teach you a series of movements using the ballet barre and floor focusing on core strength and sculpting. Forget what you thought about ballet and come get down with Ariel in this fun and effective workout. You will be plié and tendu-ing to the sounds of your favorite modern-day music, no piano ballads here! This class is ideal for all levels who want to strengthen posture and achieve a whole body workout. Each week will include a saucy routine to elevate your technique and feel more confident with pointed toes!

Please wear clothing you can move comfortably in.

Burlesque: An Introduction

Join Cherry OnTop for a fun 3 week course of shimmy shaking goodtimes! Dip your toes into the sparkling world of Burlesque and the Art of the Tease. This 3 day course will introduce you to our sassy art form - starting with Burlesque’s history, classic movement and styling and moving through striptease peels & reveals. You will focus on poise & posture, walking in heels and some fun bump'n'grind movement, and will then layer our striptease skills on to this foundation. You will also learn a fun choreo along the way to help put our newfound tricks together.
Everyone welcome - whether you're brand new to burlesque or you're a burlesque student who wants to learn more - there will be something for each showgirl living inside you!

What to wear or bring: 
Class 1: Comfortable clothes and a pair of heels. Class 2 & 3: Comfortable clothes, a pair of heels and an extra bra and pair of panties.

Sweet Summertime: Drop-in Classes

Cleo Victory is bringing you some drop-ins this summer! Joinher for a sweet and sultry class celebrating bare feet, gooey movement and warm weather tunes. You can expect a combination of contemporary floor work, exotic dance flows and burlesque movement. Class will be taught at an intermediate level but everyone is plenty of modifications will be offered. Bring water, comfortable clothing and something to cover your knees.

The Art of Burlesque: Ingenue Level

Instructor: Cherry OnTop
Location: 1000 Rivers Studios (54 East 4th)
Dates: Saturdays, Oct 12 - Dec 7 (no class Nov. 30)

This 8 week course focuses on Classic Burlesque Movement and delves deeper into the skills learned in Burlesque: An Introduction (a prerequisite to this class). Cherry’s “Ingenue” Level is geared to a level 1 & 2 and is perfect for those who are newer to the scene, those students who have taken one performance class with Cherry before or those more interested in Classic movement and performance.
Continue to build on your foundation of Poise & Posture, walking in heels and your bump'n'grind. Learn how to showcase your personality and your body while building your burlesque movement library. This class will lead up to a group performance at the next VBC Student Showcase, December 12 at The Rio Theatre - we will be working together to create a classic burlesque routine, complete with costume and striptease.
*Costumes will be needed for the show - we will do our best to make it affordable and accessible for everyone. Be prepared to do some crafting and to hunt and gather for affordable pieces at 2nd hand stores or lingerie stores.
**Cost includes notions for your costumes, plus a crafting night and an extra dress rehearsal class (date TBD). You will also receive professional stage photos and video from the showcase.

What to wear or bring: comfortable clothes and a pair of heels.

The Art of Burlesque: Starlet Level

Instructor: Cherry OnTop

Dates: Saturdays, Oct 12 - Dec 7 (no class Nov. 30)

Join Cherry OnTop for 8 weeks of digging deeper into burlesque movement, while incorporating more sensual striptease and stage presence elements with a Neo Burlesque twist. Cherry’s “Starlet” Level is geared to a 3 & 4 and was created for those students who have taken 2 progressive performance classes or more with Cherry before. This is a pre-requisite for this class as you will be pushed at a more advanced pace. Together we will practice and refine our striptease, practice giving "face" plus work on the elements that drag the audience into the seduction of burlesque. Learn more about drawing people in and projecting your energy out. In this class we learn more about neo burlesque style and stylings, while still keeping our roots in a classic burlesque background.
The main goal of this progressive is to work together on a group performance where we can showcase our new skills in an exciting, arty and undeniably sexy way! This class will lead up to a group performance at the next VBC Student Showcase December 12 at The Rio Theatre - we will be working together as a group to create a burlesque routine, complete with costumes and striptease.

Classic Chair Cabaret: Level 1

Bring your sexy secretary fantasies to life in this 1960’s retro throwback class! Learn fun foundational chair tricks, build your core and upper body strength and learn safe and proper alignment so you can nail the move every time. Trust your chair and trust your body to do what you want them to! Come party like it’s 1969 in this classic character burlesque.

Each student has the option to perform the finished routine in the VBC Student Showcase December 12 at The Rio Theatre and to receive complimentary professional stage photos and video.

The cost includes a costuming party to get ready for the show (date TBD), some costuming supplies, and tips and tricks on how to get that burlesque look. Students are expected to source general costume items for the show. We will do our best to make sure it remains affordable and accessible for everyone!

Bring:

  • Towel for padding the chair when necessary

  • Water bottle

  • Clothes you can move in that cover your thighs and back (leggings and tank tops recommended)

  • Heels you can dance in (preferably those with an ankle strap, such as ballroom heels)

Neo Chair Cabaret: Level 2

The carnival is closed, darkness falls, and the carousel unicorns awake, full of lust, magic and all that harnesses and horns suggest!
Build strength, technique and polished consistency through a variety of extra fabulous chair tricks and transitions, including inversions, floor work and partner work.

Each student has the option to perform the finished routine in the VBC Student Showcase December 12 at The Rio Theatre and to receive complimentary professional stage photos and video.

The cost includes a costuming party to get ready for the show (date TBD) and some costuming supplies.

Level 2 students must have taken a previous Level 1 Chair Cabaret class, or a private or group placement class with Chastity. If you have any questions please email chastitytwist@gmail.com.

Contemporary Burlesque

Join Cleo for 9 weeks of sensual movement and contemporary dance technique in a safe and supportive environment. Each class will include a full body warm up, an introduction to the technical foundations of contemporary dance, conditioning, floor work drills and a progressive piece of choreography. This course is ideal for students who love connecting with their sensual, feminine energy and want to refine their musicality, artistry, dance technique and stage presence. Expect slow jams, sexy beats, low lights and sultry good times. At the end of the session, students will showcase a choreographed piece that will include a pastie reveal.
Please note that this class will include a strong floor work component. Students with knee and back injuries should contact Cleo prior to signing up. Class will be taught at an intermediate level-previous dance experience or a previous session in Contemporary Burlesque is strongly recommended. 

You will be performing your finished routine at the VBC Student Showcase December 12 at The Rio Theatre and will receive complimentary professional stage photos and video.

What to wear or bring: Clothing you're comfortable moving in, leg warmers or high socks that cover your knees, knee pads (optional)

Dance Foundations Bootcamp & Stretch

Dance Foundations Bootcamp

Chaînés? Piqués? Pas de bourré? Qu'est-ce que c'est?!
Feeling a bit lost in your dance class?
This 10 week class is designed to teach terminology, technique and the foundational steps of dance. Students will learn the turns, jumps and foot-work that are essential to attending higher level dance classes. Designed for students who have not previously studied dance and students who would like to drill the basics - this is the class will work your brain and your body!
Every class will include a warm up, stretch, conditioning and drill-based exercises that will be repeated weekly to improve mastery. This class does not include a choreography component.

Dance Foundations Stretch
Lead by Jungle Kat, assisted by Ruthe Ordare

Always promising yourself eventual flexibility? That one day you'll master your splits? This 10 week class will provide the skills and encouragement you need with a weekly structured stretch to add to your training regime. No matter how far along in you are in your journey, all levels will be accommodated with modifications that will help new and seasoned stretchers move closer towards their flexibility goals.
